About Atelier 23

ATELIER 23 sources its cloth directly from Loro Piana, Zegna, and Scabal — houses that have supplied the world's finest tailors for generations. The suits are made by tailors with three decades of practice each, working at a production facility in Serra da Estrela — the highest point in Portugal. The boutique is on Avenida da Liberdade, in the centre of Lisbon.

The Materials

Direct accounts with these houses give ATELIER 23 access to the full breadth of their cloth ranges — including fabrics not available through distributors. The client pays for the construction and the fit, not for the name on the label.

The knitwear collection is built around materials selected for what the hand notices on first contact. SuperGelong Wool — sheared once from Australian merino raised in Geelong, valued for an unusual fineness that is difficult to replicate — sits alongside Cashwool by Zegna Baruffa, which carries the softness of cashmere and the quiet sheen of silk. Each material is chosen because it holds its character over years of wear, not because it photographs well at launch.

The Craft

The tailors at Serra da Estrela trained in the Italian tradition and have worked within it for over thirty years. Their methods combine the discipline of that school with the precision of contemporary pattern-making. The level of individual adjustment applied to each made-to-measure commission — more than twenty measurements, a second fitting before delivery — brings the result close to what is conventionally understood as bespoke, though ATELIER 23 does not use that word loosely.

Shirts are made in Naples, at one of the oldest shirtmaking facilities in the region. Construction throughout the collection follows a single standard: the garment should require no correction after it leaves.

The Collection

The ready-to-wear collection is designed around the wardrobe of a man who dresses with considered intention rather than habitual repetition. Dark navy, grey, and black suits. White and blue shirts. Knitwear and outerwear built to function quietly and last a long time. Each piece is made in Portugal to the same construction standard as the made-to-measure service, with individual fitting adjustments available on all suits.

ATELIER 23 does not organise itself around trends or seasonal calendars. The collection changes only when something more considered becomes possible.

The Boutique

ATELIER 23 is at Avenida da Liberdade 110, Lisbon. The boutique is open for walk-ins and appointments. For clients who require a made-to-measure consultation, or who are visiting Lisbon and wish to arrange a fitting at short notice, the atelier is available by prior arrangement.
