A crew neck sweater knitted in Portugal from Cashwool®, an extra-fine merino yarn spun in Italy by Zegna Baruffa. Against the skin it feels close to cashmere, and it keeps its shape the way wool does. It goes under a jacket, over a shirt or on its own.

  • 100% extra-fine merino wool (Cashwool®, Zegna Baruffa)
  • Crew neck, ribbed cuffs and hem
  • Sizes S to XL, see the size chart
  • Made in Portugal
  • Hand wash or delicate cycle at 30°C, dry flat
The Full Story — The Yarn, and How to Care for It

Cashwool is extrafine merino yarn spun by Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia, the Italian mill that has been spinning for the Italian knitwear houses since 1850. The fibre is finer than standard merino, which is what you feel in the first second: the softness reads as cashmere, but the yarn behaves like wool — it holds its shape, it takes a wash, and it does not thin at the elbow after one winter.

That combination is the whole argument for it. Cashmere is warmer and lighter and nothing replaces it, but a cashmere sweater is worn with gaps between wears and washed as little as possible. Cashwool is the piece that goes out three or four times a week, under a jacket or on its own, for years.

Wash by hand or on a delicate cycle at 30 degrees with a mild wool detergent. Do not wring. Dry flat, because a hanger drops the shoulders of any knit. Keep it folded, and in summer with cedar or lavender.
